Peter Cunliffe-Jones was a journalist for more than 25 years from 1990, most of it for the AFP news agency, in Western Europe, the Balkans, West Africa and the Asia-Pacific. In 2012, he devised and led the project to found Africa Check, in a partnership with the journalism department at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. In 2016, he was part of the team that developed the Code of Principles of the International Fact-Checking Network, adopted today by more than 135 organisations, and led the revision of the Code in 2019-2020. He stepped down as director of Africa Check in 2019 and is today a visiting research fellow at the University of Westminster and director of a new program on media freedom in an age of misinformation.
