is a weapons and ammunition management (WAM) specialist at the Small Arms Survey. He leads multiple projects and provides specific support in the field of WAM. His work focuses on activities and operations relating to the oversight, accountability, and management of arms and ammunition throughout their life cycle, including the establishment of frameworks, processes, and practices for safe and secure materiel acquisition, stockpiling, transfers, tracing, and disposal. Before joining the Survey, he was a regular Officer in the Swiss Armed Forces serving under EUFOR and contributing in the coordination of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s and the international community’s efforts to reduce the amount of dangerous surplus of ammunition, weapons, and explosives (AWE) stockpiles and establish a sustainable ‘life-cycle management’ system. Prior to that, Marco served for several years as a UN Military Expert on Mission (UNMEM) in Peacekeeping Operations, including in the Middle East, the Western Balkans, Northern Africa, and Asia. Between missions, as a Swiss Army Training Officer, he supported the preparation and mentoring of future military and civilian personnel about to deploy to hostile environments.
